Mexico City (June 8, 2026): Just a few days before FIFA World Cup 2026 begins, scorpions have swarmed the co-host nation of Mexico.
The 2026 World Cup is being held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. But before the tournament even kicks off, Mexico City has seen thousands of scorpions spread across streets, homes, and public places.
The highest number of sightings has come from Tlalpan, Magdalena Contreras, Xochimilco, Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, and Milpa Alta. Rising heat and humidity, along with rain that has flooded their natural shelters, are pushing the scorpions toward dry, dark places.
The tournament starts on Thursday, June 11, and the opening match is scheduled for Mexico City’s historic Azteca Stadium between the host team and South Africa.
