‘Disgraceful scenes’ of player flogging: Saudi football federation’s decision to toughen rules for fans
After a video of a player being whipped during a match in the Saudi Football League went viral, the country’s football federation has decided to review the rules and regulations applicable to fans.
A Jeddah-based Etihad Football Club player was flogged in Abu Dhabi, where Etihad lost to Al-Hilal in the final match of the Saudi Super Cup.
In the video that went viral on social media, it can be seen that after the loss, an angry man standing near the field started flogging the Etihad player.
Apparently, footballer Abdul Razzaq Hamdullah had thrown water on a fan. The fan then became enraged and lashed out at the player with a whip.
The Saudi Football Federation (FAFF) said it was “shocked to see the humiliating scenes”.
